Teaching is central to anaesthetics and intensive care — theatre teaching, simulation, and the close supervision of trainees. A Teach the Teacher course formalises those skills and adds strong, evidenced material to your portfolio and CV.
How anaesthetics and ICM score teaching
Anaesthetic and ICM training is built around one-to-one teaching and simulation, and you will be expected to supervise and teach throughout. Formal training in teaching demonstrates that you have developed these skills deliberately — valuable for ARCP, for educational roles, and for your longer-term consultant portfolio. Erudical enrolment also includes a place at NMERC 2026, where an oral or poster presentation can score in the presentations domain of specialty applications that score presentations (how presentations are scored).
Both score a teaching course directly. Anaesthetics ST4, Domain 6 (Teaching), awards 1 point for having “attended a Teach the Teachers course, Generic Instructors Course or similar”; the 2-point tier requires organising or delivering teaching, and 3 requires a postgraduate certificate in education. ICM ST3, Domain 6 (Teaching skills, scored 0–4), awards 1 point for having “attended a basic teaching methodology course”; 2 requires providing regular teaching or instructor certification, and 3 requires over half a formal teaching qualification.
So the course scores 1 on each, and that is the ceiling an attended course can reach in both — every tier above it needs you to be delivering or organising teaching, or to hold a university award. ICM names “a certificate of attendance or completion of a teaching methodology course” as acceptable evidence.
