How Radiology ST1 selection works for 2027
- The MSRA is a gate. To be considered for interview you need 201 on each of the two papers. It is not part of your final score.
- Your final score is “30% portfolio and 70% interview scores”.
- Your portfolio categories are fixed when you submit your application, and you upload the evidence in February if you are invited to interview or placed on the reserve list.
In 2026, 2,849 applications were made for 327 posts, a ratio of 8.71 (Medical Hub competition ratios).
The two stations
Station A: portfolio and person specification
- Before you join, a single panel member reviews and scores your uploaded evidence.
- The first two questions are about your portfolio.
- Two further scored sections cover the person specification.
Station B: person specification
- Three sections of questions on the person specification, including commitment to the specialty and communication skills.
Portfolio domains are graded A (4 points) to E (0), and domain 1 counts double.
What makes you appointable
- At least 48 out of 80 overall, with at least 22 on each station.
- A combined unweighted score of 6 out of 10 or more for the clinical question.
- 4 out of 10 or more for every other question.
Your portfolio score is not used to decide whether you are appointable, only to rank you.
