Teach the Teacher course for Histopathology ST1: claim 2 points in Training in Teaching

Histopathology ST1 uses a structured self-assessment, and training in teaching is a scored domain in which a course can earn up to 2 points. Because the scoring rewards longer training, histopathology is one of the specialties where doing a full teaching course pays off directly. Here is how it works.

How Histopathology ST1 scores teaching

The histopathology self-assessment awards 2 points for “substantial training in teaching for the delivery of medical education lasting 3 or more days”, and 1 point for “brief training in teaching for the delivery of medical education lasting 2 days or less”. NHS England’s 2027 scoring guide states that “6 hours is recognised to equate to one day”. Complete both parts of the Erudical course — the 12-hour self-paced course and the 6-hour live teaching day — and you have 18 hours of training in teaching, the equivalent of three 6-hour training days, evidenced by the combined course certificate. That is the route to the 2-point tier. Either part on its own counts as brief training, worth 1 point. What to submit as evidence

Keep your dated certificate of completion, the provider details and the CPD accreditation. For 2 points your evidence needs to show training lasting 3 or more days. The combined course certificate does that: 18 hours across the self-paced course and the live day, the equivalent of three 6-hour training days.

One practical point: the histopathology guidance says that where you have more than one achievement in a domain you should upload only the highest-scoring one, and that assessors verify only the first item uploaded.
