Histopathology ST1 uses a structured self-assessment, and teaching is a scored component with real points on offer — up to two of them. Because the scoring rewards longer training, histopathology is one of the specialties where doing a full teaching course pays off directly. Here is how it works.
How Histopathology ST1 scores teaching
The histopathology self-assessment awards one point for training in teaching lasting up to two days, and two points for training lasting more than two days. The two-point tier is worded as “substantial training in teaching methods lasting more than 2 days”. Completing the Erudical course in full is 18 hours — 12 hours of self-paced study plus a 6-hour live tutor-led day — which is the evidence for that tier. Either element on its own falls into the one-point band for brief training of no more than two days. Confirm the current scoring in NHS England’s histopathology self-assessment guidance. Erudical enrolment also includes a place at NMERC 2026, where an oral or poster presentation can score in the presentations domain (how presentations are scored).
What to submit as evidence
Keep your dated certificate of completion, the provider details and the CPD accreditation. For the two-point threshold your evidence needs to reflect more than two days of training, which is why completing both Erudical components is the route to full marks.
One practical point: the histopathology guidance says that where you have more than one achievement in a domain you should upload only the highest-scoring one, and that assessors verify only the first item uploaded. Merge both certificates into a single PDF so the 18 hours read as one body of study.
Live vs self-paced for histopathology
To reach the two-day threshold, do both. The self-paced course gives you the bulk of the hours flexibly; the live day adds the interactive element and pushes you over the two-day line for the second point.
