What a teaching course is worth in paediatrics
Paediatric trainees are expected to teach throughout run-through training, and your portfolio is reviewed at every ARCP. A recognised teaching course demonstrates that you have invested in your educational skills — not just delivered ad-hoc sessions. It also prepares you for the supervisory and educational roles that come with seniority. Erudical enrolment also includes a place at NMERC 2026, where an oral or poster presentation can score in the presentations domain of specialty applications that score presentations (how presentations are scored).
Paediatrics recruitment does not award points for a teach the teacher course, at ST1 or at ST3. The Education domain scores your involvement in delivering education — designing, leading and evaluating sessions with learner feedback — rather than training in how to teach, and the only qualification uplift at ST3 is +1 for a PG Cert, PG Diploma or MSc. We would rather say that plainly than sell you a point that is not there.
What the course is worth in paediatrics is the teaching itself, and the portfolio and ARCP evidence around it: the Education domain rewards sessions that are designed, led and evaluated, which is exactly what the course trains you to do.
