What CSRH scores
CSRH ST1 is recruited by NHS England East of England. We could not read its 2027 pages, so the interview details here come from the previous round’s applicant guide. In that guide, “The total marks possible will be 60 x 2 interviewers = 120 marks”, and “Successful candidates are allocated to regions based on their ranking, by their total score achieved and their preferences.”
The guide also says “the interview is not to test advanced knowledge as this would disadvantage less experienced candidates but should test generic skills required for clinical practice and leadership in this field.”
The dates on this page are the national Round 1 window. In the last round, the CSRH window matched it. In 2025 there were 1,379 applications for 14 posts, a ratio of 98.50 (Medical Hub competition ratios).
NMERC: practice for the presentation task
The Communication domain was a presentation. Presenting at a national meeting such as NMERC is real practice for that task, and a sexual or reproductive health topic gives you material for Specialty Interest. Neither earns a mark as a CV item.
With so few posts, most CSRH applicants also apply elsewhere. “In 2027, applicants will only be able to submit a maximum of five applications per recruitment round.” Other specialties in the round, such as IMT (IMT points calculator), Core Surgical Training (CST portfolio guide) and Clinical Radiology ST1 (Radiology ST1 portfolio points), score a national presentation. NMERC on Saturday 14 November is before the 19 November close. NMERC is an online national conference on Saturday 14 November 2026. It is free to submit and free to present, and it is open to any doctor or medical student. Every abstract is reviewed before it is accepted. Submit at nmerc.org/submit, and read more on the NMERC page.
